Forget your forks! From time immemorial, flatbreads have been the way to sop up sauce, roll up wraps or dab on dips — proving that it’s truly fine (not to mention delicious) to eat with your hands. From fatir, which can trace its roots to ancient Bedouins on the move in the deserts of the Middle East, to French pissaladière, the succulent, caramelized onion-topped pizza-focaccia hybrid from Provence that puts the cronut to shame, countries around the world have never fallen out of love with flatbread.

Perhaps that’s because flatbread serves so many purposes. It’s had a starring role in several world religions (see Judaism and Christianity for just two examples), and often provides simple sustenance in extreme environments (damper was invented over a campfire in Australia’s rugged outback during colonial times).

Whether it’s unleavened (made without yeast), slightly leavened (such as pita bread) or fluffy and risen (see naan); flatbreads are a veritable blank canvas for creative cooks around the globe.

Torta Sul Testo — Italy

This Umbrian griddle-baked flatbread is a staple of the province of Perugia, and has been compared to some of history’s first examples of unleavened bread (traditionally, torta sul testo was baked on earthenware). As if it couldn’t get tastier, this authentic Italian flatbread gets stuffed with greens (like spinach or broccoli rabe), or is served plain with a side of Pecorino cheese or olives. Delizioso!

Damper — Australia

Leave it to the land down unda’ to create a flatbread in the coals of a campfire in bush country (how cool is that?). Damper is an iconic Australian unleavened bread made from wheat flour, and can be tied to stockmen who traversed the wilds caring for livestock, outfitted with only the most basic rations (typically, flour, sugar and tea). This bread from the outback was often eaten with a simple gold-colored syrup combining cane sugar and water called “cocky’s joy” (seriously), but today can be enjoyed from the bakery with jam or even vegemite.

Here is a compilation of 14 mouthwatering stuffed flatbreads from around the world.

Flatbreads are flattened bread usually prepared with unleavened flour. Though most flatbreads use unleavened flour, there are a few exceptions.

When flatbreads are stuffed either with a vegetable or a meat filling, it not only enhances the flavor but also makes it a hearty snack and a meal. There are sweet and savory stuffed flatbreads in almost all cuisines.

It is amazing how similar some of the flatbreads across the countries are, despite the distance. Some of the these taste a lot similar to Indian stuffed paratha, though the preparation varies.

Artist Selection Process: Panelists from Brit + Co and P&G Bounty's creative teams will judge the submissions and select 50 finalists on June 11, 2021 who will receive a Selfmade scholarship for our summer 2021 session. Then, up to 8 artists will be selected from the finalists and notified on June 18, 2021. The chosen designers will be announced publicly in 2022 ahead of the product launch.

In this hands-on class with Chef Andrew, you will learn how to prepare four different flatbreads from scratch using fresh, local ingredients and a modern fusion of Italian, Swedish, and Pacific Rim culinary traditions.

Some of the modern flatbreads from around the world you can look forward to constructing during this experience include a smoked salmon and goat cheese Swedish flatbread with fresh dill, an Italian antipasto pesto flatbread featuring house-made mozzarella, a stone-fired naan rainbow flatbread topped with a kaleidoscopic array of fresh vegetables, and so much more!

My family and I had a great time at Chef Andrew's class, even though we came in a group of four instead of two, he still made it a very enjoyable evening! The food was amazing and we definitely learned a thing or two about making flatbread. He created a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere while maintaining his professionalism. One of the best evenings I've ever had! My sister and I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Andrew for the flatbread class. Right from the start, Chef Andrew welcomed us with his spicy Thai shrimp, and then we jumped into the night. Patrice and I arrived early at their lovely cottage and was greeted by Chef Andrew and Barbara with a glass of champagne and a tour of their home. Chef and I had lots in common and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversations. The evening began with knock ‘em dead Hors D’oeuvres and a review of the upcoming menu. Cooking was a kick and we learned many interesting techniques that even enhanced our experienced background. We made several types of flatbreads that would be perfect for entertaining . We highly recommend this class. Chef Andrew is professional, experienced, and a great teacher. We have taken cooking classes all over the world and this has been the most fun. The experience was a great value and should not be missed if you are visiting San Diego!

The food was excellent. Possibly the best food we've had in years. The plating was lovely and the kitchen was spotless upon their departure. I wish I could have rated the food alone, as it really was outstanding. But unfortunately, there were just so many things to consider regarding service of the meal that couldn't go unnoticed. It started with the chefs arriving 30 minutes before their scheduled time. We had just gotten home and were hardly settled when they arrived, even saying that they were running late. If that had been the case, which it wasn't, there was no contact with me prior to their arrival indicating that they were running behind. Since the dinner was going to be a surprise, this was an awful timing blunder on their part. I had things to prep before they arrived. Further, I was only expecting one chef. A two-person meal wouldn't normally take two chefs to make and I was only planning on having one person present. This was a minor inconvenience since we have been trying to expose ourselves to as few people as possible during the pandemic, but was exacerbated because neither chef was wearing a mask, which goes against the policies of Cozymeal. We're both vaccinated, but are still very conscious of making sure we're not silent spreaders. The experience of a private chef is supposed to be one in which the chef is almost not present. But Chef Andrew made himself very known while he was there, in what was unfortunately consistently uncomfortable. He repeatedly referred to my friend as a romantic partner several times, despite being corrected each time, discussed "immigrants from Mexico" as being dangerous and possibly breaking into our home, clearly not considering that we're Mexican and might take offense to that, and discussed how ridiculous it was that "everything is closed" because of the pandemic, which was a topic we were actually trying to actively avoid. He additionally discussed his own relationship with Chef Barbara, seemed a little full of himself, and interrupted us several times to begin random conversation. The service left so much to be desired. I wish I could have even rated them a four, but the outright unprofessional topics of conversation, passive racism, blind assumptions about our relationship, and narcissistic boasting, on top of consistent interruption and poorly timed arrival was just too much to ignore.

This experience hosted by Chef Andrew was nothing short of amazing! He was very professional and gave us tons of tips on how to be a better cook throughout the night. Chef Andrew is legendary! He is a genuinely talented chef and quite a character. From start to finish, Chef Andrew showed us how to make three delicious pastas and sauces and Chef Barbara treated us with pineapple mango sorbet. Hands down, it is an amazing experience, don't think twice about booking. My girlfriend says it has been one of her favorite date nights.

This was honestly such a strange and in a lot of ways a deeply uncomfortable experience. All I will say is that if you are a female and / or in any way sensitive to inappropriate pats on the back, a slew of incredibly sexist jokes (including, but limited to, how women must maintain their nails, support men to be successful, beg their boyfriends to stop playing golf, and beg to be married), and even inappropriately placed political commentary, then I’d recommend you spare yourself from this experience. It’d do Chef Andrew well to educate himself on professionalism and courtesy both in general and in particular regarding what is acceptable treatment towards women and just stop touching your students (this should be common sense). These were some of the more uncomfortable hours of my life in recent memory and I hope to soon forget this class. Spare yourself.

Chef Andrew was absolutely wonderful! He is very flexible and able to communicate quickly. If I could give him 10/10 I would but there is only 5 stars. Our time with Chef Andrew was an amazing experience. We cooked and had dinner in his home which was extremely hospitable. We had never done anything like this before so this was very unique for us and didn't quite know what to expect. Andrew started us off with a short tour of his home and some Champagne. The magic happened in his kitchen where it was cozy but he had streamlined the process so that we weren't interfering with each other. I felt there was a perfect balance of what the Chef had prepared ahead of time and what we completed in the evening. For amateurs like ourselves, the tasks he had us do were not too easy or difficult. Chef Andrew made a point to explain things along the way as he hoped we would leave there being better cooks, which we are. After dinner, he prepared coffee and tea to our liking and served it to us in front of a fire (which he had managed to keep going all while we were cooking) in his beautiful backyard. Chef Andrew is a wonderful cook, teacher, and personality.

Chef Andrew and his business partner Chef Barbara were outstanding. They made our anniversary so special, and we had a fantastic time learning Chef Andrew's beautiful recipes. Our evening was finished with fireside coffee service. We were unsure of what to expect from this experience, but we were so happy with the intimate and comfortable setting. NI usually dont write reviews but this experience was just phenomenal! Nothing short of amazing!! Well exceeded my expectations. I wanted to surprise my husband for his 30th birthday and wanted to do something memorable. I spent the evening with Chef Andrew as a surprise Christmas gift for my boyfriend. Because of Andrew, I basically won Christmas. The entire evening was amazing. The entire meal was handcrafted based on my requests. While we could participate as much or as little as we wanted, I can tell you that you want to roll up your sleeves and get in there with the chef. He’s warm, conversational and knows how to tailor the experience based on experience levels. I’ve taken cooking classes around the world and consider myself someone who “kinda knows what they are doing”. but Chef Andrew went above and beyond our expectations. From the custom menu, to the surprise amuse bouche and then the amazing backyard (fire pits. Glowing swimming pool. ) I could not have asked for a more wonderful way to spend the evening. Please don’t hesitate to try out a meal with Chef Andrew. I promise you will not only fill your tummies but also your soul.

Moroccan white bread has a round, flattish shape similar to pita. It traditionally used for scooping up tagines, but makes an excellent sandwich bread, too. To achieve its unique, slightly coarse texture, use bread flour or another high-gluten flour blend.


Pão de queijo

These chewy balls of cheesy bread are the favourite breakfast snack of Brazil – and soon to be yours too! They’re like cheesy mini muffins or bread rolls with a delightfully soft centre – and the best part? They’re incredibly easy to make and require no yeast or rising time with this quick pão de queijo recipe.

They do need to be made with tapioca flour (which you can find at most supermarkets and is gluten-free) and the other ingredients are simple – just milk, butter, eggs, salt and cheese. Mix up the dough, shape into balls and pop them in the oven until crispy and golden, and you’ve got yourself the perfect cheesy bread snack. Our tip? Sprinkle them with grated cheese before baking for extra-cheesy pão de queijo. Delicious!


  1. Put the flour and salt into a bowl.
  2. Next, slowly add the water while stirring in with your hand to form a dough.
  3. Sprinkle some flour onto your work surface, then put the dough on the flour.
  4. Add the olive oil to the dough, before kneading for five minutes.
  5. Divide the dough into six balls.
  6. Roll each dough ball into a round, flat shape.
  7. Heat a little oil in a small frying pan and spread around the pan using kitchen paper.
  8. Cook each flatbread for two minutes on each side until it puffs up a little and has some brown patches from contact with the pan.
  9. If you want soft flatbreads, you can now serve.

An alternative to white flatbreads is wholemeal flatbreads. These are just as simple to make as white flatbreads.

Pizza is the stuff of gods. It's a dish that truly brings people together to share cheesy, greasy carb-loaded goodness. And no matter who you are or where you're from, there's probably a particular way you like your slice. Check out the best pies from around the globe:

1. Italy

Neapolitan pizza consist of four simple elements: hand-formed crusts, San Marzano tomatoes, legit mozzarella di bufala, and basil. That's it.

2. New York

New York-style pies mean thin but still pillowy crusts with a crispy bottom (from a coal- or wood-fired oven), tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese. They're often enormous and produce slices bigger than your head. Street food is a pilar of good eats in Poland and this pizza-sandwich hybrid&mdasha.k.a Zapiekanka&mdashis no exception. The hand pie is essentially a baguette that's been covered in cheese, mustard, onion, and mushrooms and then baked. And it's finished with ketchup.

11. Spain

This pretty flatbread is called coca and it's traditionally topped with Spanish sausage and an array of vegetables. It tends to have much more oil than its American counterpart, but we're definitely not complaining.

Mediterranean Flatbread for #SundaySupper

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Well, actually it was a few years ago and in a Florida kitchen. A college-bound girl said a few simple words: “What I’ll miss most is our Sunday Supper”. Little did she know her words would be the catalyst that would cause her mom to start a movement. Since then her mom has united people around the world to bring back Sunday Supper around the family table. She also inspired me with many things including her flatbread recipes. In her honor, I made Mediterranean Flatbread to celebrate the first National Sunday Supper month.

Who is this movement starting mom? It is my friend Isabel Laessig, aka Family Foodie, founder of the Sunday Supper Movement and Food and Wine Conference. I’ve watched Sunday Supper grow from Isabel’s very first tweet asking people what they were cooking for #SundaySupper. To see a simple hashtag reach go from a few to millions is astonishing and definitely worth celebrating.

It’s way more than a hashtag. It is all the people, recipes, stories, adventures, and events that inspire cooking and enjoying a family meal. The hashtag ties all of those things together throughout the internet on blogs and social media. I am proud to be a part of it all since the beginning. I brought Pear and Stilton Salad to the first virtual progressive Sunday Supper back on January 8, 2012.

About the Mediterranean Flatbread: It’s an easy meal you can make in a few minutes. The most involved is cutting and slicing. Using pre-made, store-bought flatbread makes it super easy. The same with pesto. Toppings are artichoke hearts, olives, onion, bell pepper, capers, and garlic. They are lightly dressed with olive oil and red wine vinegar. Oh, and there is feta cheese too. Yummy!
